A few months ago, I had a dream that an oncoming car crashed into a ditch.
Another car was in the scene and I thought, “I feel really guilty not stopping to help”. I had the knowing that the other car could stop just as easily as myself. I had my baby, Mercy, and my wallet in the car with me. As I got out of the car, the victims of the accident jumped out of their car and began laughing at me as they jumped in my car to steal it.
It was a set up. Joke was on me.
Thankfully, I grabbed Mercy and my wallet and watched as they drove away to my house, which they overtook and stole as well. About thirty people moved into my house and kicked me out. I pleaded and cried for them to know God and I even preached the gospel to them in my dream. I drove them to church and they folded their arms and refused to open their hearts. Some of them were professed Christians and I asked, “Why are you doing this?” They answered, “It’s just business.” My heart broke, but they wouldn’t listen.
The dream was so vivid, I knew God was talking, actually, revealing and correcting.
I asked the Holy Spirit what that was all about. He said, “I’m showing you your cracks. You have some places the enemy has access to that you don’t realize. He is using guilt as a counterfeit gift of mercy. You stopped to help out of guilt, not true mercy, My mercy.” There were more revelations from the dream, but the gist of the dream was that God was revealing where I was naked, unarmed, and ignorant. I have been in ministry for well over a decade. I have studied the enemy and know his ways and schemes, but obviously I wasn’t completely aware of my cracks. Does God teach you through dreams? Do you journal? Do you have someone (who bears fruit) who you allow to speak honesty in your life?
How does God work in your life to bring a new perspective or correction?
I am so thankful that the Lord showed me where I’m off. I seriously had no idea (or I was in denial) that I was moved by guilt. I have been alert to it ever since. I pray that God is able to reach you and teach you about things that need shifting, covering, or exposed. Don’t be afraid. He disciplines those He loves.
Father, I pray right now that all of my friends will open their hearts and minds to your Voice of truth. Expose the places and cracks within us that are allowing the enemy to steal from us or destroy us. Give us rest in those moments when pride swells up when we are being corrected by You in the many different ways You choose. We love You! We need You! Amen.
Hebrews 12:5-13, NLT
5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the LORD’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you.
6 For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?
8 If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.
9 Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?
10 For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness.
11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
12 So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. 13Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.
